发信人: 农夫—蛇, 信区: 课业交流 标 题: Re: 南师人自己的留学答疑帖~ 发信站: 师大天空 BBS站 (2014/10/7 15:38:49) 《For DIY 的你》 Landie Qiu-Pennsylvania State University 出国中，文书DIY，没有买过一本参考书，都是交大图书馆借的，for free. 我之前开始写文书的时候，就把我们学校图书馆所有关于留学文书的书借来了，每本都看了。我小小分析下每本的特色，大家参考。 排名不分先后，我从我手能够到的长度，开始排。 1. 美国留学申请与书信实例 A guide to apply for assistantships & admissions to American colleges 社会科学文献出版社 这本书从你开始有出国的想法，到考试，文书，到最后签证，入境，去学校一路指导，里面各个学校，专业的排名都有，比较全面。适合长期持有。 特色：关于文书，里面不是一大篇，一大篇，而是一个个段落和能用上的词语。 中规中矩，很实用。另外，我最爱的是，这本书中，有联系学校小米email的各种书信实例，如何问申请情况，如何argue，如何催成绩，如何求再考虑，都有，非常方便。这是唯一一本，我在写完文书的申请后期还用的比较多的参考书。 推荐指数：***** 2. 成功跨入哈佛商学院 65篇申请作文点评 65 successful Harvard Business School Application essays 世界图书出版公司 这本几乎是考ＭＢＡ的同学的必读之书！不考MBA的我也很推荐读读。特别是商学院，这个是老美申请哈佛的作文，用词造句很地道，字里行间都透着一种“领导气质”。你可以看看他们要吸引申请官的时候是用的什么方法。 特色：老美的思路，一定能给你文书精神性的建议！推荐章数：七，长处与短处，八，为何进哈佛。Strength and weakness, why this school.是各种学校PS常问到的两个命题，一定对你帮助很大。 推荐指数：***** 3. 出国留学文书 写作模板100篇 国防工业大学出版社 首先一点，写文书千万不要用模板！！你当教授是瓜的啊！！你用模板的话，你只能承认你不但长了个大众脸，连你自己的人生都是大众人生。参考书也一样，看一两个句子没有问题，千万不要整段整段的用别人的，那是别人的！！不是你的！！！好，讲回这本书。这本书没有多余的废话，全是申请论文的实例，每篇文章之后会提炼出本篇的亮点句子。如果时间不够的话，直接看亮点句子和词语就可以了，很方便。 特色：无废话，有专业点评。全是实例，很实用。 推荐指数：*** （时间紧的同学我很推荐） 4. 名校奖学金申请攻略 中国宇航出版社 这本书蛮老了，里面的例子也比较老，排版也老。文章呢，就是一般的思路，没有创新，也不会出大错。书中也提供排名。 特色：里面的申请文章是分专业的，这点比较赞，看起来很方便。 推荐指数：*** 5. Be your self better 做更好的自己 —— Top ＭＢＡ 申请指南 ＣＤ出品，for free. 这本不用多数，CD的人人都知道，这里套用官方介绍：本书涵盖了Top MBA申请的方方面面：选校，Resume编辑，推荐人选择，Essay构思与写作，Interview准备等，并针对申请的各个环节给出具有操作性的建议，这是一本你可以在申请的各个阶段拿出来反复读一读的MBA申请指导书。书中同时包括Harvard、Stanford、MIT Sloan、Kellogg、Chicago Booth、Wharton、Tuck、UC-Berkeley Haas、Columbia、NYU Stern、Yale、Michigan Ross、Darden、Duke Fuqua、UCLA Anderson、Cornell Johnson、LBS、INSEAD等共十八所Top Business School校友/在校生访谈，对于申请者了解学校和写why MBA会非常有帮助。 特色： 一本真正的温暖之书，让你知道不是一个人在战斗！ 给个链接，就能拿到！ http://book.chasedream.com/ 当初免费寄到我家里了，感动死了！！ 推荐指数： ***** 6. 太傻十日谈 太傻出品， for free 本人不是太傻的顾客，当初在太傻论谈小小咨询了下，对方就热情地寄来了这本书。 这么本书，我在考GT之前就看过一点，当初根本没看进去，也多地方也不理解。当开始写文书重新看时，才明白里面讲的很多问题。不得不说，这本书的出现， 推翻了我对其他文书参考书的认识。这个得你看很多参考书后才会明白。这本书是我写文书的，总的精神指导。 特色：一定要看了其他参考书后，再看这本，你会觉得其他很多书讲的很多就是个屎。推翻你的文书概念。 但是这个过程一定要有。留学申请必看之书！！相信我！ 推荐指数： ***** 7. 留美宝典 a guide to the studies in the USA 教育科学出版社 这本书是我刚开始有留学想法的时候看的，没有讲文书，讲认识美国教育，申请步骤等等。你写文书的时候就不用看了，选校的时候看看吧。它还设计了一个选校表格。挺有意思的。 特色：没有教你写文书，也是个特色吧、然后它写了每个州的地理气候，文化特征，等等，后期选校应该用的上 推荐指数： * 8. 带你去留学:美国篇 清华大学出版社 中规中矩的一本参考书。文书介绍很全面，有实例有分析。连小众的cover letter都有。 特色：最大的特点就是，它会教你文书如何排版，多大字号等等。甚至教你信封的几种折法！！这个很实用，你懂的。 推荐指数：*** 9. 留学美国全程攻略:如何申请美国全额奖学金 漓江出版社 很多参考书的名字要和奖学金扯上关系，其实奖学金这个问题吧，文书起一小部分作用，而用一本参考书就能帮你申请到奖学金，更不可能，都看自己的悟性！ 这本书以实例为主。没有太多的的文书介绍。 特色：里面是几个同学的写文书的感想，有空可以看看，没空就算了。 推荐指数：** 10. 英语学术论文及留学文书写作=A handbook for writing English academic paper and admissions essay 清华大学出版社:北京交通大学出版社 这本书又讲申请论文又讲了文书写作。一共12章，只有第一章是介绍留学文书的。内容较少。有些学校要写 cover letter. 我借的所有书中，只有两本有cover letter的指导，这本是其中之一。 特色： 本书全英文，你可以从英文角度了解，到底神马是批批示ps，什么是cover letter. 他们的基本要求是啥子，不要从中国人的角度去臆想，看看英文是怎么解释这几个东西的。 推荐指数： *** （要写cover letter 就要拿来看看） 11. 留学申请=College Admission Essays for Dummies 机械工业出版社 这本书是老美写的，写的很活泼，很多插图，给你讲故事啊，看漫画啊，乱七八糟的，在美国销售排行很好。教你怎么把文书写得引人入胜。 特色：这里我想说下，申请本科和申请研究生的区别。这本书就是针对申请本科的同学，教你怎么讲故事给招生委员会听啊，怎么怎么有趣生动啊，怎么怎么引人入胜啊。但是都是对本科而言，对于研究生的申请，哪个听你讲长篇的故事哦，都是看实力，看工作经验，看科研成绩，故事神马的，就高中生讲讲吧。 推荐指数：申请本科 **** 申请研究生 * 12. 我如何进哈佛=How I got in:美国常春藤大学申请秘笈 中国社会出版社 这个是针对本科生的，我没记错的话，这本书是用了好几个学生的实例 来讲几个常春藤大学的。有这几所大学，哈佛，布朗，埃默里，芝加哥，卡耐基，加州巴克利，康奈尔，威廉姆斯，莱斯，威尔斯利。 它还讲解了美国招生流程。 特色：如果你申请的学校在这里面有，这本书的帮助很大，特别是对于怎么写 why this school. 比如说康奈尔，它就会说到一些特色的东西，比如康奈尔的校训，它有最早的校报，它冰欺凌很好吃等等。 推荐指数： 取决于你有没有申请这里面介绍的几所学校。 如果有，建议看，没有就不要看了。 13. 本专业的英文原版教材。 这个不言而喻，之前所有的参考书都不能弥补你在专业方面的英文表达不足。几本英文原版教材能帮到你的。 特色：不仅能帮到专业词汇，表达等等，这也是你对career plan 好好思考的过程。深入了解你将倾注半生的行业。 推荐指数： ***** 14. 一个老外 我自己写了文书之后，请了一个学校的外教帮我改，他都是改改语法和用词，但是由于外教不了解自己的专业，所以大的方便帮不上太多。 特色：外国人改改，涂个放心，这个是唯一的付费参考… 推荐指数：* （性价比太低！） 15. 一个文书指导大军师 我请了一个加拿大的学土木工程的学长帮我全程指导，我的每一篇文书他都逐字逐句帮我看过，改过。而且是每一个学校哦！！我申请了12个！！！ 有些学校5,6篇essay！！！！ 如果说人生要遇到贵人，那么就是这位了！！我对他的感激之情能写几百个word 文档！！！ 贴一段，他写的帮助我的心路感想。 Helping Nadine out with her graduate school admission material is surely amazing experience. Even if I have to spend several hours at night with her every day after my 8 hours of working to fix her articles (sometimes this is a brain killing job to do), the reward still outweighs the expense. The most fun comes from seeing her grow; indeed the quality of her work has improved greatly as we spend more time together discussing and perfecting every detail in her essays. I remember when I got her first essay in November, it looked like it was written by an elementary school student, with insufficient detail, and ineffective description. 发信人: why07933, 信区: 课业交流 标 题: Re: 南师人自己的留学答疑帖~ 发信站: 师大天空 BBS站 (2014/10/9 16:53:57) 一.Preparation PS 的精髓在于将自己的motivation和Objective充分展现出来，它应该是personaland analytical, 任何 generalization都需要避免，PS的关键在于用specific, personal details来展现你的个人魅力和强烈的 motivation。 写PS时，要尽量完全的真诚。这是诉说一个你自己的故事，你不是在设法创造一个理想的申请者，而是 just be yourself。任何的伪造都是很容易被识破的，只有完全敞开的真诚，才能真正打动admission officer，也才能真正的 认识你自己，才能真正让你选择最适合你的graduate program。 用specific details来展现你的motivation很重要。这些specific details可以包括研究和工作经历、课程、你跟你所感兴趣的领域的人的交流、你读的书、你参加的学术报告会，以及任何可以展现你为何选择并适合这个研究领域的原因。 你需要明确你未来的方向，至少为自己未来5~10年的事业做一个规划，而这个规划应该很适合你所申请的这个graduate program，那也正是你选择这个领域的原因。 描述为什么这个graduate program适合你，不要用一些空洞的赞美性的语言，一定要be specific, be analytical。 一定不要出现一些粗心的错误，那只能证明你不够认真对待。 避免说一些空洞无意义的套话，避免陈词滥调。这里可以举个例子。 修改前：In the first project Imanaged, I learned many valuable lessons about the importance of teamwork. 修 改 后：In the first project Imanaged, I made an effort to incorporate all my colleagues as equal members ofa team, soliciting their feedback and deferring to their expertise as needed. 修 改前的这句话很空洞的讲team work，没有任何details；修改后的话就展开讲了我是怎么展现teamwork的。在写PS的时候一定要注意展 开这些细节。最好的方法就是以自己的亲身经历开始，让那些展现你的quality和personality的东西自然流露出来，你的那些品质不需要总结性 的generalities, 人们会从你对自己经历的specific details的描述判断出你有哪些quality。 不要企图把你所有的经历都写进PS里，PS追求的不是广度，而是深度。好的PS是深入挖掘一个或两个主题、时间或观点的细节。 注意避免敏感话题，因为你不知道admission officer的个人偏见。 不要用冗余的长句。短句更加有力，因为他们更加direct和to the point。举例： 修 改 前：”My recognitionof the fact that the project was finally over was a deeply satisfying momentthat will forever linger in my memory.” 修改后：”Completing theproject at last gave me an enduring sense of fulfillment.” 像the fact that这种词就是完全冗余的。 -- ※ 来源:·师大天空 BBS站 http://www.nsdbbs.com·[FROM: 127.0.0.*] |

Consult Friends, Relatives, Colleagues, or Professors for Ideas 别人往往可以看到你性格特征中你自己没有注意到的地方，所以向别人请教可以帮助你更好地了解自己。不妨来做一个调查问卷，向了解你的请教~ I am applying to _________ and must prepare a personal statement as a part of that process. I want to be sure to include all relevant data about myself and my background, so I am soliciting information from various individuals who know me and whose judgment I value. Thank you for your help. 1. What do you think is most important for the admissions committee to know about me? 2. What do you regard as most unusual, distinctive, unique, and/or impressive about me (based on our association)? 3. Are you aware of any events or experiences in my background that might be of particular interest to those considering my application to graduate school? 4. Finding the pattern that connects 一定要寻找那些跟你申请的program相关的经历 Conveying something meaningful 一定要找到一个能展现你独一无二personality的经历 Painting a complete portrait 一定要全面展现出你的能力，如果你只说自己的一段经历，这段经历应该能全面展现你的各方面能力；如果你要说自己的多种经历，这些经历之间应该互为补充。 Standing out 一定要突出的unique的地方，如果你觉得实在很难做到unique，那就be more specific and personal. Doing so not only could sound manipulative, but also means that you haven’t emphasized your strengths sufficiently.
